The Many Faces of Pop Culture: Take II

Idol vs Abuser

In America today, I believe that many values are warped. I believe that 80% percent of americans can say " It isn't like when we were growing up." I am only 19 years young, so I can't relate. How it is now is all I have known. Still, I can see that alot of things are terribly wrong in this society. I would like to take a brief gaze at a once "Teen Idol" superstar Chris Brown. A fairly new rnb singer, who crooned many tween gals. The girls ooed for him, and the young men wished they had his sense of "Swag". This was all until we saw a pleasant young musician exhibit domestic abuse.

What happens now? How should we judge? Do we have the right to judge? I ask all of these questions to other Chris Brown fans. I find myself wanting to listen to my favorite Brown songs, but feel alittle ashamed. I am a young woman who could of been in the same predicament. I sometimes even feel a little disgust. Some may say that it isn't that serious, but I whole-heartedly disagree. Imagine being in the car, and seeing a this man place his underworked hands on his girlfriend. I am not saying that he isn't sincerely sorry, I am just stating that it will never be forgottened. He sings of love and how he will never hurt the one he is with, and does the exact opposite. Now, I am not naive, I know a person doesn't always live out there music. I really was a supporter in Chris , and now he has lost a fan. I do not know if this is temporary or permanent.

Once Happy

The Future

I wonder if his label will keep him. I wonder if he'll ever have another hit as big as the previous ones. I wonder if Rihanna will really go back to him. What makes him different then any other abuser? His celebrity maybe? This shouldn't come in to play when the game gets serious. I think he should be frowned upon, just as any other. I will say this , if i had a teenage daughter I would teach her never to stay with or want a man who hits you. I would tell her all the fame in the world isn't worth the batter.

Fame or Shame

Should Chris Brown be dropped from his label?

  • Yes ( shame on him)
  • No ( thats a bit harsh)
