The Many Faces of Pop Culture
49Who?
Originality is the hub of America's entertainment. So, why is it that I have to continuously sift through the copycats to seek originality? I have been searching and may have found my diamond in the rough. I am a lover of a variety of music genres. Although, it seems many music genres are becoming squeezed and "smooshed" together. This one artiste has brought to my attention that music is still a way to scream at the world " HEAR ME!". Let's take a brief gander at the Mcee known as Kid Cudi.
Mr.Mescudi
I have two ears for music. Far from a kid, Cudi is his own man on the "mean streets" of Hip-Hop. Although he approaches his songs in a semi-soft tone, he has a unique boldness in his sound. It as though he wants to be known for not being known. It's like he wants to be famously unpopular. His ingenious single "Day and Night", really gave me something to ponder about. The person in his song lives sort of a double life. He falls in thoughts that drive him mad through the night. He is a "lonely stoner". Nothing is going right for the character, until the day returns and the sun is shining. This song contains realism. I believe alot of young people can relate to this song. Young people who feel truly alone, but don't show it. Kudos to Cudi for showing us the world through a "lonely stoner's" eyes.
I recently been enchanted by his latest single, which contains a sample of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". A classic song to me, with a small portion of lyrics. It features Common , and the "big brother" himself Kanye West. Three great rappers blessed the mic on this one. Coincidently, some say the Kid is reminiscent of boss and peer Kanye. I wouldn't make this comment, I truly beg to differ. I believe Cudi has found a home on G.O.O.D records, where he is truly among artists who understand and agree with his goal in music. Here is a toast to you Kid Cudi.
